Abstraction Dress
I was inspired by this Japanese fan palm plant, that has a pleated texture. Licuala grandis is a very attractive little palm, slowly growing up to only 6-8 feet tall. It has a single slender trunk that can grow to about 10 ft tall. Ruffled Fan Palm has very attractive pleated leaves, each with notched tips. These shiny dark green leaves are rounded that spans to about 20 inches or more.

The Licuala grandis, also known as the Ruffled Fan Palm, is a striking tropical plant native to the South Pacific. It is recognized for its large, perfectly rounded leaves with dramatic pleated and ruffled edges, giving it a bold and elegant appearance. Slow-growing and compact, it is often used as an ornamental plant indoors or in shaded gardens.

For the Abstraction Dress, I wanted to capture the actual idea of a leaf and nature with the first outfit, so I designed a nature dress. The model in the dress is the plant's stem, while the leaves are securely draped around her torso.
For the Fanned out Dress, the second is inspired by nature's abstract art. The pleated texture fabric depicts the natural pleats of the plant, while the varying angles of the dress's high points mimic the fan-like shape of the leaves.
